ASBURY PARK, N.J. –The Attorney General’s Shooting Response Task Force is conducting an investigation of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred tonight in Asbury Park, N.J.
NJ Attorney General's Office Officials say one civilian sustained fatal injuries.
According to preliminary reports, the deadly encountered occurred in the vicinity of 305 7th Avenue at approximately 10:32 p.m. where an unspecified incident had at least one officer opening fire on a potential suspect.
The victim was transported to Jersey Shore Medical center where doctors pronounced the victim dead.
This investigation is being conducted pursuant to the law enacted in January 2019, Senate Bill 1036, which requires that the Attorney General’s Office conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
