Investigators from The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are looking into a pedestrian strike that left one person dead in Maplewood early this morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, emergency responders and rescue crews received 911 calls from the residence and responded to the 1600 block of Springfield Avenue for an injured bicyclist.
Crews arrived at the scene and found the victim trapped under a vehicle after being struck at that location.
Firefighters and rescue crews were able to extricate the unidentified person from underneath the vehicle in a short amount of time, but medical staff pronounced the victim dead at the scene according to reports.
The cause of the incident remains under an active and ongoing investigation.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office will lead the investigation according to Maplewood authorities.
