Authorities in Middlesex County are investigating a tragic incident that occurred Friday night in Sayreville, where a pedestrian was fatally struck on a busy roadway.
Police responded late in the evening to reports of an accident in the southbound lanes of US-9 near The Garden State Parkway.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered an unidentified person lying on the ground, having been struck by a vehicle.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A crash investigation team has been deployed to meticulously examine the circumstances leading up to the fatal encounter.
Local law enforcement is still investigating the incident, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified. Investigators will release further details as they work to determine the cause of the accident and identify the victim.
