The New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Troop “D” Criminal Investigation Office, and troopers from Galloway Station are investigating a crash that killed two people and injured two others.
On Saturday, June 25, at 12:53 a.m., troopers responded to the southbound Garden State Parkway at milepost 48.6 in response to the report of a car into the woods.
Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives determined that Darryl Thomas, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y. was driving a 2016 Nissan Maxima southbound in the left lane when he lost control of the car, traveled across the road to the right, drove through the guardrail, and overturned multiple times as the car traveled down an embankment and into a marsh.
Darryl Thomas and passenger Zachary Pearce, 22, of Jamaica, N.Y. were ejected.
The U.S. Coast Guard and West Tuckerton Dive Team assisted with locating the victims.
At the scene, Darryl Thomas was pronounced deceased at 4:39 a.m. and Zachary Pearce was pronounced deceased at 4:43 a.m.
Passengers Lamarr Edwards, 22, and Derrell Shaw, 31, both of Jamaica, N.Y. were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains an active investigation.
