A train that struck and killed a person on the tracks this afternoon had police investigating.
According to NJ Transit officials, emergency responders rushed to the East Orange station at approximately 2 p.m. where a male trespasser was struck by the Morris - Essex line train 6644 that was heading to New York City.
Crews arrived to find the unidentified victim dead at the scene.
According to preliminary reports, the unidentified person jumped in front of the train shortly before being struck.
The train - which left the Dover station at 12:58 p.m. - had a total of 361 people aboard. All of its occupants were unharmed and were ultimately transferred to a new train, officials added.
The Morris and Essex line trains were suspended in both directions following the incident. Trains service has since been restored.
The investigation is active and on-going.
