Monmouth County officials are investigating a fire that reportedly left one person dead in a neighborhood in Neptune Township overnight.
According to police, fire broke out just before midnight at a house on McBride Avenue where firefighters arrived at the scene and observed heavy fire engulfing the single-family wound framed structure just before midnight.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about an hour, but after a search of the home, they located an unconscious and unresponsive person inside.
The victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel according to reports. There were no other injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
