Officials in Elizabeth believe that a carbon monoxide poisoning incident that killed one person this afternoon in the city was the result of an apparent suicide.
According to a statement released by Elizabeth city spokeswoman Kelly Martins, shortly before 4 p.m. this afternoon, police responded to a residence in the 200 block of Vine Street for a welfare check.
Units arrived at the scene said they found a note on the door stating there were dangerous gasses inside and that the person at the residence took their life.
Firefighters and Hazmat arrived at the seen to assist in the entry where they found the unidentified male dead according to spokeswoman Martins.
It is not clear what caused the escalation of carbon monoxide poisoning at this time.
"This is an ongoing investigation and there is no danger or health threat to the public according to spokeswoman Martins.
