A crash that caused fatal injuries in Toms River is under investigation by authorities.
Police responded to reports of a crash with injuries that occurred in the area of Clifton Avenue and Washington Street just before 9 p.m.
Upon arrival, they requested emergency responders and rescue crews after they found a vehicle crashed into a tree with at least one occupant inside.
Firefighters were able to extricate the unconscious victim then hand them over to EMS who transported to an area hospital in critical condition according to preliminary reports.
Medics pronounced the victim dead a short time later reports said.
A crash investigation team responded to the scene to determine the official cause.
