A fast-moving storm that passed through much of New Jersey left tens of thousands of utility customers without electricity on Sunday.
According to utility officials, the offensive line of storms rapidly moved east across much of New Jersey, which had large tree branches fall on power lines causing the outages.
Officials from PSEG, JCPL and Elizabethtown gas said Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union - were hit the hardest and remained under a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m. on Monday.
The National Weather Service reported Burlington, Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Ocean and Monmouth counties were placed under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m.
Weather officials said gusts of winds measured as high as 70 mph along with heavy rain and, spots, lightning was observed as storms came as a cold front moved into the region.
There were no serious injuries reported.
