Newark firefighters swiftly responded to a late-night blaze that broke out in a North Ward home on Thursday, bringing the flames under control in less than 30 minutes.
The fire erupted around 10:10 p.m. at a three-story wood-framed residence located at 171 Sylvan Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke billowing from the basement, prompting them to stretch hoses and aggressively attack the fire.

Crews entered the building to search for any trapped or injured occupants, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Officials have not confirmed how many residents were displaced or if the American Red Cross assisted them.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by Newark Public Safety officials.
