As with much of NJ, Union County small businesses have been the hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, making Small Business Saturday 2020 more important than ever.
This year, in the small town of Fanwood, longtime Mayor Mahr will join with The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce today, welcoming and greeting shoppers to support local businesses.
According to the GWACC, the event will happen at the South Ave Plaza, next to Railside Café, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Chamber of Commerce officials said they would be greeting shoppers and handing out the AMEX Shop Small shopping bags filled with promo items from Fanwood businesses and a complimentary raffle ticket for raffle prizes.
According to American Express, since 2010, local business supporters have spent more than $100 billion on Small Business Saturday.
In a statement released by Governor Phil Murphy earlier in the week, he stressed the importance of supporting local small businesses.
"Small businesses have a great effect on the quality of life in neighborhoods by providing important resources and supporting a local ecosystem that includes schools, charitable organizations, and churches," Governor Murphy said.
