Police in Newark are reporting that Broad Street will be temporarily closed to traffic to accommodate the wake and funeral service of former Newark Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson on Thursday.
Newark Police officials say, Mayor Gibson will lie in state in the Rotunda at Newark City Hall, 920 Broad Street, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a processional will accompany the former mayor to the 7 p.m. funeral service at Newark Symphony Hall, 1030 Broad Street.
**In support of these events, the following streets will be affected:**
• 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Broad Street will be closed from Court Street to Lafayette Street
• 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Broad Street will be closed from South Street to Lafayette Street
Drivers should anticipate delays and seek alternate routes.
