Essex Sheriff's Office Conducts Raids, Arrests Made, and Significant Contraband Seized in Newark/Irvington

In a proactive effort to combat illicit activities and enhance community safety, the Essex County Sheriff’s Bureau of Narcotics executed three search warrants in the cities of Irvington and Newark.

AdThe operations, carried out under the leadership of Essex County Sheriff Armando B. Fontoura, have led to multiple arrests and the confiscation of a substantial cache of weapons, narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and cash.

According to county officials, Sheriff’s detectives, backed by the determination to curtail criminal operations, conducted these search warrants, which resulted in the seizure of seven firearms, including a .22 caliber assault rifle, two 9mm handguns (one of which was defaced), a .44 magnum revolver, a .40 caliber handgun, a .22 caliber rifle, and an additional handgun.

Approximately 200 rounds of hollow point ammunition were also confiscated, further bolstering law enforcement's efforts to ensure public safety.

However, the scope of the operation extended beyond firearms, as the Sheriff’s detectives unearthed a trove of contraband during the raids.

County officials said their efforts led to the discovery of a tablet press machine, Firmapress pill mix powder, around 1,630 envelopes of heroin, an astonishing 87 pounds of marijuana, over 75,000 tablets of ecstasy, an array of THC edibles, 4,300 grams of concentrated THC, approximately 30 decks of heroin, over 85 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms, more than 20 grams of cocaine, and approximately 30 grams of Xanax.

AdThe cumulative impact of these raids was significant, not only in terms of contraband but also in terms of monetary assets.

Over $12,000 in cash was seized, further disrupting criminal activities and dismantling their financial infrastructure.

Arrests were made in connection with these operations.

According to county officials, Mr. Jamil Wilson of Irvington and Courtney Conner of Newark were apprehended during the raids and are presently in custody at the Essex County Correctional Facility.

They are awaiting arraignment as law enforcement authorities continue to build their cases.

Fontoura emphasized the importance of such operations in ensuring the safety and well-being of Essex County communities, stating, "Our commitment to eradicating illegal activities that threaten our neighborhoods remains unwavering. These operations are a testament to the dedication of our Sheriff’s detectives and their relentless pursuit of justice."
