The death of an infant in Newark's Central Ward is currently under investigation.The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is leading the investigation into the events leading to the child's death, but not a lot of information was released from officials.
On Sunday evening around 9 p.m., police were called to a home near the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 10th Street after reports of an unconscious person.
Emergency responders arriving at the scene discovered an unconscious and unresponsive infant.
Despite immediate efforts to revive the child, including administering CPR, the infant was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The State Regional Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
