The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is set to announce the arrest of 40 fugitives who were wanted for felonies ranging from murder to aggravated assault in the county this morning.
Monday morning's press conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Essex County Prosecutors Office in Newark. Some invited police agencies include The Essex County Sheriff's Office, the US Marshals, and DEA.
The operation was conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies around New Jersey, including the US Marshals was successful in a plethora of arrest beginning October 7 through October 19.
The warrant sweep, conducted jointly with the Essex County Sheriff's Department and the Newark Police Department, is a "proactive approach to ensuring the safety of Essex County residents," said Acting Prosecutor Stephens.
"Anyone charged with a crime who ignores a warrant in Essex County," he added, "should know that temporarily out of sight is not out of mind; law enforcement will be vigilant in finding and prosecuting you."
According to US marshal officials, the law enforcement net expanded as far away as Texas and Georgia for men wanted for sexual assault and murder.
