Essex County Sheriff’s Officers Administer Narcan to Unconscious Man in Vehicle

Newark

Essex County sheriff’s officers tonight administered Naxalon to a motorist whose vehicle was found stopped at the Clifton Avenue exit to Branch Brook Park.

Officials say that officers from the Patrol Division observed a 2018 Chevrolet Suburban SUV at the recreational facility at approximately 7 p.m. this evening.

Police approached the wheel and found the driver, later identified as Lionel Davis, 58, of Charlotte, North Carolina, behind the wheel unconscious and unresponsive.

According to authorities, in the center console of the vehicle, officers discovered ten heroin-filled envelops, stamped ‘SAVAGE’ in red ink” similarly to marked heroin confiscated recently from a Newark suspect in a series of raids by sheriff’s officers in the city’s North Ward.

Subsequently, officers utilized a hammer to break the vehicle’s windows, removed Davis from his car, and administered Naxalone and oxygen to revive him. Ems transported the victim to St. Michael’s Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Police charged Davis with driving under the influence of narcotics and possession of CDS and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.

An arraignment date on tonight’s charges has not been scheduled.
