Sunday evening in Newark's North Ward turned concerning as the Essex County Sheriff's Office began investigating a shooting incident in Branch Brook Park.
The situation unfolded when a ShotSpotter device was triggered on West Drive within the park around 6:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered evidence of the shooting, including several shell casings, though no victims were found in the immediate area.
Despite an extensive search of the park, the suspect remains at large, having fled the scene.
Authorities are actively continuing their investigation, seeking to understand the circumstances that led to the shooting in this typically peaceful setting.
As of now, the Essex County Sheriff's Office has not released further details on the incident.
