The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken charge of the investigation following a fatal shooting that occurred in Soverel Park, East Orange, on Wednesday afternoon.
Responding to reports of gunfire shortly before 4 p.m., police discovered a male victim with multiple bullet wounds inside the park, located off Springdale Avenue.
Emergency services quickly transported the victim to University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 5:15 p.m.
The assailant fled the scene immediately after the shooting and is currently being sought by law enforcement.
Authorities are diligently working to uncover the motive behind this tragic incident, emphasizing that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect involved.
