Essex County authorities are currently investigating a homicide that occurred in Irvington Township early Saturday morning.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 18th Avenue around midnight.
Upon arrival, local law enforcement discovered an individual who was unconscious and unresponsive with severe gunshot injuries. Tragically, medical personnel pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The medical examiner's office will determine the precise cause and manner of death.
In response to the incident, the Irvington Police Department has initiated an investigation, working in conjunction with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in shedding light on this tragic event.
