Essex County Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Trafficking, Firearms Charges

Taurean Gordon, 40, from Irvington, New Jersey, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession.Ad U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced the plea, which took place in Camden federal court before U.S. Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas.

Gordon, a previously convicted felon, admitted to possessing heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine with the intent to distribute on February 11, 2021.

Additionally, he was in possession of a North American Arms Inc. revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

He faces substantial legal penalties, including a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine for the narcotics offense.Ad For being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, the maximum potential penalty is 10 years in prison.

The charge of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime carries a mandatory minimum of five years, which must be served consecutively to any other sentence, and could extend to life imprisonment.

Each firearm count also comes with a maximum fine of $250,000.

Gordon's sentencing is scheduled for May 8, 2024, marking a critical juncture in this case, which underscores the serious consequences of combined drug and firearm offenses.
