In a significant law enforcement operation, Essex County officials announced that a joint task force effort led by detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs and firearms across Essex, Hudson, and Union counties.
The operation, conducted on October 30 and 31, was supported by the Newark Police Department SWAT Team, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team, and the Orange Police Department.
Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, stated that the raids were the culmination of a four-month investigation aimed at dismantling networks involved in the distribution of controlled substances.
During the operation, officers seized approximately 27 grams of heroin, 20 vials of cocaine and crack cocaine, 84 Ecstasy pills, and Oxycodone and Xanax pills, along with drug packaging materials. Officials estimate the street value of the drugs at around $7,000.
In addition to narcotics, law enforcement recovered approximately $6,500 in cash, three handguns, one assault rifle, a silencer, a drum magazine, and two extended magazines.
Two vehicles were also seized, one of which contained a concealed aftermarket compartment, typically used to hide illicit materials from authorities.
The suspects taken into custody include Malik Teel, 44, Roberto Rodriguez, 53, Edward Boone, 55, and Allison Adams, 53, all of whom face drug-related charges.
Michael Melvin, 44, faces additional first-degree weapons charges, which could result in a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years if convicted.
This joint effort reflects the commitment of Essex County law enforcement to target and disrupt organized drug distribution in the region.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to assess connections and pursue additional leads.
