Newark residents are enjoying a partly cloudy and dry start to the second half of a beautiful Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kickoff to summer. The National Weather Service forecasts another splendid day with sunny skies, although some early clouds could produce brief showers for some areas of North Jersey.
However, these are not expected to disrupt outdoor activities significantly this Sunday.
Today, NWS forecasters said there's a slight 20 percent chance of showers before 10 a.m., but conditions will improve as the day progresses.
It will become mostly sunny, with a high near 83 degrees. Winds will be light from the southeast at 3 to 8 mph.
Tonight, the chance of showers increases to 30 percent after 2 a.m., with areas of fog developing and clouds gathering, setting a low around 65 degrees.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of today's favorable weather. Rain is forecast to move into North Jersey on Memorial Day, with heavy precipitation expected at times.
