Elizabeth Police Search for Attempted Bank Robbery Suspect

Elizabeth

Police are on the search for a man who entered the Investors Bank on South Broad Street Tuesday morning in an attempted robbery.

Patrol units were dispatched to the Investors Savings Bank, located at 51 South Broad Street, at approximately 11:36 a.m. for a report of an attempted robbery.

Upon arriving, officers met with the bank manager, who stated that a man - described as a light skinned black or Hispanic male seen wearing a Boston Celtics jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt - entered the bank and approached a female teller.

The suspect handed over a plastic bag and a note demanding money. He then verbally threatened to shoot her. The teller refused to comply with the demands and after several seconds, the suspect grew frustrated and quickly left the bank with no proceeds.

The suspect fled west on Pearl Street on foot.

An intensive search of the area had negative results in locating the suspect.

Detectives responded to the scene, and an investigation into the attempted robbery continues.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Raymond Smith at (908) 558-2017.
