Police in Elizabeth are investigating reports of a robbery turned assault where a 61-year-old man told police that two men punched and robbed him shortly before dawn this morning.
The man told police that hw was on the 1000 block of Monroe Avenue when two males double parked a gray vehicle just before 1 a.m., approaching him.
The man then told the officers that one of men punched him in the face while the other took his cell phone, $1,800.00 in U.S. currency, $120.00 in Canadian currency and a gold necklace, Saulnier said.
The robbers then took off north on Monroe Avenue towards Newark.
The man was treated at the scene by EMS for a small laceration to his forehead.
