An Elizabeth man has been found guilty on all counts for repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl over the course of several years, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo announced Wednesday.
Officials say, Alejandro Londono, 56, was convicted Tuesday on charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, following a jury trial before Union County Superior Court Judge Lisa Miralles Walsh.
The convictions are the result of an investigation conducted by the Special Victims Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office, following a 2018 referral from the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
According to Union County Assistant Prosecutors Jessica Kahn and Izabella Wozniak, who prosecuted the case, the investigation revealed that the juvenile victim, now 14, was sexually assaulted by Londono on multiple occasions when she was between the ages of 5 and 8.
The case was tried over the course of about two weeks and saw the victim take the stand to testify. After hearing the verdict, Prosecutor Ruotolo stated that she “is proud of the way Assistant Prosecutors Kahn and Wozniak handled this very difficult trial and grateful that they were able to achieve justice for this victim.”
In a separate criminal case that remains pending, Londono is also facing charges of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact. Those charges involve an unrelated incident involving a 14-year-old male victim.
Sentencing has been tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 27, before Judge Walsh, at which time Londono will face a term of up to 30 years in state prison.
