Elizabeth Man Charged in Fatal Sayreville Crash

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Sayreville Police Department Chief Daniel Plumacker have announced the arrest of Brandon Witkowski, 26, of Elizabeth, following a fatal crash on Route 35 South near Fred's Bait and Tackle Shop in Sayreville on October 28, 2023.AdAccording to a statement released by Prosecutor Ciccone, early in the morning of the incident, Sayreville Police responded to the scene, where they discovered a 2009 Acura TL that had rolled over onto two parked vehicles.

Mr. Zion Jackson, 24, from Keansburg and a rear passenger in the Acura, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both Witkowski, the driver, and the front passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital.

The investigation, led by Officer Thomas Calise of the Sayreville Police and Detective James Alleva from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, indicated that the vehicle veered off the road, struck a safety bollard for a fire hydrant, and subsequently rolled over the parked cars.AdOn April 18, 2024, Prosecutor Ciccone said Witkowski was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree vehicular homicide and first-degree aggravated manslaughter.

He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center, awaiting a pretrial detention hearing.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing and are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact Officer Calise or Detective Alleva.
