A Union County man today admitted illegally possessing ammunition, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Honig, Kevin Cordeiro, 34, of Elizabeth, pleaded guilty today to an indictment charging him with possessing ammunition after being previously convicted of a felony offense.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
On February 27, Cordeiro fired multiple gunshots toward an occupied vehicle that was parked on Westfield Avenue in Elizabeth. Law enforcement officials recovered eight .45 caliber shell casings from the shooting scene.
After the shooting, Cordeiro fled to Florida and was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on March 29.
Cordeiro was previously convicted of second-degree robbery in New Jersey Superior Court, for which he was sentenced to six years in prison.
