Today police announced that after a two-month long investigation, detectives from the Linden Police Department’s Narcotics Unit assisted by detectives from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Guns, Gangs, Drugs, and Violent Crimes Task Force, executed search warrants Tuesday night at two apartments in Linden and Carteret which were allegedly operating as heroin mills.
At the Linden apartment on Purdue Place, detectives seized clothing, equipment, and paraphernalia used in the manufacturing of heroin.
Narcotics officers had raided the same apartment back in April, where a large amount of heroin and cash was seized, Captain James Sarnicki said today.
At the Carteret location, which was a second floor apartment on Essex St., officers found six occupants of the residence, all of whom attempted to flee through a balcony at the rear of the home.
Four of the individual jumped from the balcony, Kareem H. Jackson, 37, (tenant of the apartment), suffered a fractured leg and was found to be in possession of a 9 mm handgun in his waistband. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway before he was released into police custody.
Jaheed R. Myers, 24, of Linden, suffered a concussion as a result of the fall. He and another individual, Syim A. Bass, 26, of Elizabeth, attempted to run but were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. Myers was taken to University Hospital for treatment before being released into police custody.
Dawayne Wesley, 33, of Irvington, was apprehended at the scene, along with Carlos Cosme, 35, of Elizabeth, and Sharaiyah Williams, 24, of Carteret.
Authorities seized 707 bricks of heroin, 300 grams of powder heroin, $16,900 in cash, a money counter, and various equipment and paraphernalia used in the processing and manufacturing of heroin at the at the Carteret location.
Also seized were three vehicles, a 2012 Jaguar XJS, a 2007 Mercedes Benz M350, and a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu.
All of the individuals were charged with maintaining a CDS production facility, a 1st degree crime, as well as distribution and possession of heroin, distribution within a school and park zone.
Jackson was also charged with possession of a firearm while committing a CDS offense and certain persons not to possess weapons.
Bails were set by the Honorable Stuart J. Peim and ranged from $250,000 for Wesley, Cosme, Williams, and Bass; $350,000 for Mayers; and $500,000 for Jackson.
All were remanded to the Union County Jail with a court date set for July 15th.
