Elizabeth Armed Robbery Suspect Captured After High Speed Pursuit, Crash in Scotch Plains.

A high-speed police pursuit of susects wanted for an armed robbery in Elizabeth ended in a crashing halt in Scotch Plains on Sunday evening.

According to a preliminary investigation, Elizabeth police attempted to pull over a vehicle with occupants inside wanted for an armed robbery in the city.

Police came across the vehicle on North Avenue and began following it, when the driver sped away, reaching speeds of about 100 miles an hour according to reports.

Multiple police agencies including, Roselle, Garwood, and Cranford joined in to assist Elizabeth in the pursuit of the suspect when the driver crashed in the 2300 block of Concord Road at around 11 p.m.

According to police, two suspects bailed from the car immediately following the crash and eluding police on foot.

Officers swiftly captured one suspect but the second assailant was able to evade capture according to reports.

Police requested K-9 units at the scene to assist in the search for a black male suspect who was last observed wearing dark clothing. Officers recovered a handgun at the scene.

There were no injuries reported.
