School officials at the Saint Philip the Apostle Preparatory School have canceled school for almost 500 students and staff members after an early morning fire caused some damage to the building.
Officials said the fire was reported at around 1:45 a.m. where firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the building on Thursday morning.
Crews isolated the fire to the ceilings where they extinguished the small blaze that damaged about 40ft of the ceiling.
According to officials, ventilation operations were underway due to smoke throughout the building.
School officials said classes will likely also be canceled on Friday, but are expected to resume early Monday.
