There is an active and ongoing investigation into what caused a pedestrian strike that killed an elderly woman in Lacey Township on Friday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, police were called to the vicinity of Oak Hill Court and Haine Street after they received reports of an injured person just before 7 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene and requested a medivac helicopter after they observed the severely injured person lying on the ground at that location.
The victim was rushed to Community Medical Center with emergency crews providing life-saving techniques during transport according to reports.
Doctors at the hospital pronounced the victim dead a short time later.
In a statement released by Lacey Township Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the elderly female pedestrian walked into the eastbound lane of Haines Street in front of a vehicle traveling east.
The official cause of the incident and the identity of the victim has not been released. There were no reports of arrests.
