East Orange Men Captured for Separate Newark Shootings

According to police, two East Orange men, **Marquis Belnavis, 22 and Kazimir Jones, 20,** were arrested Thursday after being sought for two separate shootings by Criminal Investigative Detectives.

Authorities said, on July 18, Belnavis shot three people including two women in the 200 block of Georgia King Village. The victims were released after being treated at Rutgers NJ Medical School.

On June 27th, Jones fled the block of Goodwin Avenue after shooting a gun at a 22-year-old male. The victim responded to Beth Israel Hospital where he was treated and released.

Criminal Investigative Bureau Detectives obtained warrants for the suspects after gathering sufficient evidence during the investigation. Fugitive Detectives immediately initiated a search after obtaining the warrant authorities said. .

Early Thursday morning, Fugitive Detectives immediately started searching for Belnavis, who with the assistance of the US Marshall’s Service, was located leaving an apartment complex and walking along NJ Route 166 in Toms River where he was arrested without incident.

Members of the Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team (FAT) assisted by members of the New Jersey State Parole where able to locate Jones at an Integrity House along Longworth Avenue and apprehended him.

Belnavis is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a handgun, and possession of the handgun for unlawful purposes while Jones was charged with possession of a handgun, aggravated assault and possession of the handgun for unlawful purposes.

These are accusation with the suspects innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
