Police arrested seven suspects and charged them with occupying stolen vehicles in Newark.
According to authorities, on July 5, 2016 at approximately 11:30pm, members of the Department's Special Enforcement Bureau observed a Ford, with no headlights on, driving at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Springfield and Morris Avenues.
A license plate check showed that the Ford was stolen in Jersey City. Special Enforcement detectives activated the police car's lights and siren and the car stopped. Sergeant Lawee Colbert and Detectives Jose Perez and James Allen arrested the four occupants without incident authorities said.
Three Newark residents, Isaiah Campbell, 20, Adeeb Saliah, 24, Ezekiel Guevara, 22, and East Orange resident, Amara Toure, 20 were charged with receiving stolen property for the stolen Ford.
According to authorities approximately 30 minutes later, a second Special Enforcement unit, observed a BMW driving recklessly near West Kinney Street and Irvine Turner Boulevard.
A license plate check showed the BMW was stolen from Fanwood.
Despite activating the police car's lights and siren, the suspects refused to stop. At the intersection of Central Avenue and South 9th Street, the suspects crashed with Sergeant Joseph Frost and Detectives Carmelo Perez, Steven Perez and Donna Sapienza apprehending the three occupants.
Two Newark residents, Shyhiem Baxter, 21 and a 17-year-old juvenile along with East Orange resident, Tyrone Drumgold, 19 were charged with receiving stolen property, the BMW and resisting arrest.
These are mere allegations lodged against the suspects. The men are all considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
