Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Herbert Bennett, 43, of East Orange was arrested today and charged with possession of heroin and possession with intent to distribute. He was also charged with possession within 1,000 feet of a school, possession within 500 feet of a park and possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. Following an investigation, this morning the Essex County Prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at the home of Bennett in the 300 block of North Grove in East Orange. Detectives recovered 37 bricks of heroin, 16 grams of marijuana and $12,234 in U.S. currency, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, who oversees the Narcotics Task Force. Bennett is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark on $125,000 bail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
