Police officials in Newark are reporting that the Fugitive Apprehension Team has arrested Tania Duren, 27, of Irvington and Tyshawn Hines, 33, of East Orange for unrelated offenses involving the possession of loaded handguns.
According to a statement released by police, on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, an off-duty police officer from Newark was sitting in his car in front of his home when two males approached him armed with a handgun and announced a robbery.
Officials say gunfire was exchanged and the suspects fled the scene on foot.
According to police, one of the suspects was struck by the officer’s gunfire. Police say he was arrested and taken to University Hospital for treatment.
Police charged the suspect with robbery, the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and conspiracy.
Authorities developed information that identified the at-large suspect as Mr. Tyshawn Hines.
On Friday -Today- detectives arrested Hines at his workplace in Kearny without incident then charged him with robbery, the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and conspiracy.
In a separate incident, police say on Wednesday, May 23rd, Newark Police officers and Major Crimes responded to a car in the 300 block of South 9th Street that was struck by gunfire.
Police say through an extensive investigation and several interviews with witnesses, detectives identified the suspect in the shooting as Ms. Tania Duren.
According to police, at approximately 10:00 a.m. today, detectives took Duren into custody at 31 Green Street.
Officers charged Duren with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and criminal mischief.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
