In honor of Black History Month, The Honorable Mayor Ted R. Green and the East Orange City Council are proud to host an 'Open House Reception' today, February 11, 2023, for a special exhibition featuring African art from the exclusive, private art collection of East Orange-based attorney Robert Taylor, Esq.
East Orange officials said the reception will be held between 11 am to 3 pm on the 2nd Floor of 44 City Hall Plaza in East Orange. This event is free and open to the public.
Large, ornate masks and life-size statues adorn the 1st and 2nd floors of City Hall in a museum-worthy and breathtaking exhibition that captures this unique art form which is indigenous to Africa and can be found nowhere else in the world.
Officials said Taylor, an attorney, businessman, public servant and patron of the arts, is a world traveler and avid collector of African art.
Over the years, East Orange officials said he has gained a wealth of knowledge in some of Africa's most treasured artistic pieces, including ancient hard carvings and tribal masks.
Officials say Taylor will be on site on Saturday to describe the origin of each piece during a live walk-through with Mayor Green starting at 11 am.
