East Orange, City of Orange Unite for Pink October Walk to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

East Orange and Orange Township, in collaboration with the East Orange High School Class of 1988 and the nonprofit organization AAngelsNJ, are organizing a Pink October Walk Event to support breast cancer survivors and their families.

According to East Orange city officials, the event aims to provide crucial resources and raise awareness for those affected by the disease.AdBreast cancer remains a significant health challenge in the United States, with one in eight women expected to be diagnosed during their lifetime.

Every 12 minutes, a woman loses her life to this disease. In 2024 alone, approximately 310,720 women and 2,800 men are projected to receive invasive breast cancer diagnoses.

It is likely that nearly everyone knows someone who has been personally impacted by this illness.

The walk is set to take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. in Elmwood Park, located at 33 Elmwood Avenue in East Orange.

The event will bring together survivors, supporters, and advocates to promote awareness and raise funds for those affected by breast cancer.

Participants will follow a route that starts in Elmwood Park, continues down South Arlington Avenue to Central Avenue, and then proceeds up Central Avenue to the Hickory Street entrance of Monte Irvin Orange Park before returning to Elmwood Park.

In addition to the walk, attendees will have access to various resource vendors, healthcare providers, and community partners offering support and information.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Kaytee DaVoice, adding an uplifting atmosphere to the day’s events.

Proceeds from the walk will directly benefit AAngelsNJ, a grassroots nonprofit organization that provides breast health education, cancer awareness, and direct support services to individuals in Essex and Union counties and beyond.AdThe funds will help sustain the organization’s efforts to educate communities and support those facing breast cancer.
