Police are investigating a crash that left two people injured early Tuesday morning in Newark's downtown area.
It happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of University Avenue and Raymond Boulevard.Emergency responders, including University Hospital Rescue and Newark Firefighters, were dispatched to the scene following reports of a collision.
Upon arrival, crews used specialized tools to extricate the trapped occupants from a car that had collided with a box truck at the intersection.
The victims were safely removed from the vehicles and handed over to EMS personnel, who transported them to University Hospital for treatment.
A hazmat crew was also called to the scene to clean up an expected fuel spill, while Newark Traffic and Signal Department workers were summoned to repair a damaged pole near the intersection.The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine what led to the accident.
