Residents in a Newark neighborhood were startled by multiple rounds of gunfire early Saturday morning. Newark Police responded to reports of shots fired around 2:10 a.m. at 74 7th Avenue, where they discovered shell casings upon arrival.
The area was quickly secured and cordoned off as the investigation began. A ShotSpotter device, which detects and locates gunshots, had activated and alerted police headquarters to the shooting.
Despite the shooting, a thorough canvassing of the scene confirmed no victims.
Newark's Shooting Response Team was dispatched to assist with the ongoing investigation. The shooter remains at large, having fled the scene shortly after the incident.Authorities are actively seeking leads and are encouraging members of the community to come forward with any information that could aid in the suspect's apprehension.
