An early morning fire in Jersey City is under investigation as a suspicious fire, city officials said this morning.
Crews responded to the 500 block of Mercer Street at approximately 4 a.m. for a report of a fire at an apartment building.
According to officials the fire originated in a 1-story vacant building (535 Mercer St.) which is attached to a 3-story, multifamily apartment building located at 53-55 Jordan Avenue.
All 37 residents escaped the fire unharmed, while a firefighter was transported to Jersey City Medical Center - Barnabas Health with a shoulder injury.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but Arson investigators have deemed the fire suspicious.
The fire was placed under control approximately 45 minutes later.
