The driver of a car that crashed into a pole on the border of Newark's Central and South wards suffered severe injuries early Saturday morning.
The incident unfolded just before 7:05 a.m., near the intersection of Avon Avenue and Stratford Place.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and found a severely injured and bleeding male lying on the ground and about two other occupants out of the car suffering non-life threatening injuries.
Responders said the driver lost control of the car and slammed into the pole.
The impact caused one of the doors to pop off, forcefully injecting the driver out to the pavement.
The unidentified male was rushed to University Hospital for treatment for a chuck of his leg ripped off and other internal injuries.
Newark Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
There were no other injuries reported.
