Driver That Killed Pregnant Woman in Verona Crash; Admits He was on Heroin

A 25-year-old driver accused of striking and killing a pregnant woman in Verona admitted being on heroin at the time of the crash.

According to authorities, Anthony V. Casale Jr. on March 3rd, struck

seven months pregnant, Megan Villanella, and her brother, Derek Longo, with a 2006 Mitsubishi while they were both standing on the sidewalk at Lakeside and Pease avenues.

Longo was transported to University Hospital, where he remains stable.

According to reports, Casale following the crash had glassy eyes and a dried, white substance on his lips.

Casale has allegedly now admitted using heroin and other drugs for three years,

Casale, who has been charged with first-degree death by auto and second-degree assault by auto, will be released with several limitations, including giving up his driver's license, wearing a monitoring device, submitting to weekly drug testing and staying at home, with few exceptions.
