Driver Charged Following Thanksgiving Morning Serious Crash on Route 1 in Edison

Authorities are investigating a serious crash that occurred early Friday morning on Route 1 North and Parsonage Road in Edison, according to a statement released by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.AdThe crash left multiple victims with significant injuries and resulted in charges against one of the drivers involved.

The incident occurred around 1:32 a.m. Thanksgiving Day when emergency responders arrived to find two vehicles involved in the collision.

One vehicle was occupied by Diego Mejia, 39, of Edison, his wife, Jessica Naranjo, 35, of Woodbridge, and Mejia’s 15-year-old daughter.

Mejia sustained severe injuries but remains in stable condition. Both Naranjo and the teenager are in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

The other vehicle was driven by 31-year-old Alyssa Figueredo of Cranford, who suffered minor injuries and was transported to JFK Medical Center for treatment, according to the prosecutor’s office.

An initial investigation by Detective Chris Pitoscia of the Edison Police Department and Detective Ken McGarry of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Figueredo allegedly ran a red light, striking Mejia’s vehicle.

Figueredo has been charged with three counts of third-degree assault by auto, driving under the influence, and multiple traffic violations.AdThe investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage of the incident to contact Detective Pitoscia of the Edison Police Department at 732-248-7400

According to a statement released by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, no further details are available at this time.
