Dozens Arrested in State Wide Drug Raid; Hillside Murder Suspect Nabbed

Newark New Jersey

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that 48 individuals, including one juvenile, were arrested as part of a major takedown following the execution of six search warrants; five in Newark and one in East Orange. One of the arrests was for murder and a second was for conspiracy to commit murder.

Dubbed Operation T.I.D.E. (Targeted Integrated Deployment Enforcement), the five-month investigation, centered on violence, drugs, guns and murder in Essex County mainly in the city of Newark. Eleven of those charged remain at-large.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force led the investigation with the assistance of the Passaic, Morris, Bergen, and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Offices along with the New Jersey State Police, the Bloomfield, East Orange, Montclair, Belleville, Paramus Police Departments and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.

Acting Prosecutor Murray commended the men and women of the Narcotics Task Force as well as her law enforcement partners who assisted in this operation.

“We will continue to work together with our law enforcement partners to rid the county of crime, drugs and violence and make it a safer place live, work and visit, ’’said Acting Prosecutor Murray.

The drug ring was operated by members of 793 set of the Bloods in Essex County. Those arrested include residents from Essex, Monmouth and Morris. Those arrested who did not live in Essex County drove from their homes in other counties to purchase drugs in the City of Newark.

“This takedown is an excellent example of how law enforcement is collaborating in Newark to target the drug dealers and gang members who are driving gun violence in the city,” said Acting Attorney General Hoffman.  “The guns, heroin and Oxycotin seized in this operation speak to the dual threat posed by this network, which controlled its turf with violence while fueling the deadly epidemic of opiate addiction gripping our communities.”

Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, said, “Gang related crimes do not follow jurisdictional lines and therefore partnerships are the only way to confront these violent and organized groups. We are all committed to sharing intelligence and resources to make our cities and our state safer.’’

The Operation culminated in the seizure of $31,064.00 in cash. Heroin, Cocaine, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Promethazine syrup, and Oxycotin with a street value of $10,000 were also seized along with four semi-automatic handguns and an assault riffle.
