Dozens of Additional Police Officers to Partrol Newark Streets for 4th of July Weekend

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced the deployment of an additional 60 police officers with an anticipated increase for calls for service during the usually busy Fourth of July weekend.

These additional officers will primarily be deployed in problematic areas to address quality of life complaints and respond to calls related to fireworks although they are also available to respond to any in-progress crime authorities said.

Other officers deployed solely for DWI enforcement will bolster this contingent of 60 officers.

Those assigned to DWI enforcement are tasked with identifying drunk drivers, arresting them and getting them off our roads before they cause injuries to themselves or someone else authorities said.

Director Ambrose stated, “These officers will be tasked with enforcing our zero-tolerance to any activity that denigrates the quality of life in our city. We will be strictly enforcing city ordinances and monitoring the activities of suspects in problematic areas whose actions rise to the level of responsible suspicion. My goal is to make this Fourth of July weekend safe for everyone who lives, recreates or visits our city during this holiday weekend.”

Director Ambrose is asking for the public’s continued assistance, and is urging anyone with information about crime or a wanted suspect’s whereabouts to contact the Department's 24-hour Crime Stoppers’ tip line at 877 NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477) or NWK-GUNS (877 695-4867).
