Newark Firefighters made quick work out of a fast-moving fire that displaced three families in their city's North Ward Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters were dispatched to 323-327 Park Avenue after witnesses said they saw smoke and flames coming from the basement of a 4-story house around 12:40 p.m.
Crews arrived and found that all residents made it out of the burning building without injuries.
Firefighters stretched lines after they found the seat of the blaze and were able to extinguish the fire without extensions to the first floor.
The American Red Cross released the following statement:
“Our disaster volunteers responded to a home #fire on Park Ave. in #Newark, helping 12 people from 3 families, providing Red Cross emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food and clothing needs“ -Red Cross
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Newark Fire officials.
