Two people suffered severe injuries after a gunman fired shots in their direction that struck the pair in a section of Newark's East Ward Monday night.
According to police, at approximately 2 a.m., residents contacted authorities after hearing several large popping noises in the vanity of 190 Pennington Avenue.
Officers arrived at the scene found multiple rifle shell casings, but after searching the area, no victims were found.
Police officials said while detectives were working the scene, Rutgers University Police notified them that two gunshot victims entered University Hospital suffering bullet wounds.
Police say the female and male are both stable condition at the hospital.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
