Newark Police are investigating two armed carjackings that occurred within several block of each other in the city today.
According to authorities, the first incident happened in the the area of Orange Street and Gray Street shortly before 1 p.m. where cops were called to the scene after receiving reports of a carjacking in progress.
Arriving police units began to search for a blue Mercedes Benz S600 that was taken at gunpoint by a male suspect who fled the scene wearing a red hoodie authorities said.
A brief search of the area had police locate the unoccupied vehicle in the 100 block North 13th Street near 4th Avenue a little after 1 p.m.
According to authorities, at around 8 p.m. this evening, police were called to the area of Orange Street and Myrtle Avenue after receiving reports of a carjacking in progress.
Units arriving to the scene located the victim who told them that a male suspect, who was wearing a red hoodie, approached armed with a gun and demanded a silver 2001 Nissan Quest with a reported Nj license plate number "KNL23K"
The fled the scene in an unspecified direction.
There were no physical injuries in either carjacking.
