A violent assault of a bread delivery man was reported this morning on the Bloomfield/Newark border.
According to preliminary reports from the scene, police reported to the area of North 13th Street and 1st Avenue at around 5:20 a.m. on reports of shots fired.
Several police units arrived and found the victim suffering non-life threatening injuries after being being physically assaulted by at least one male suspect who was armed with a gun.
According to the victim, the suspect attempted to rob him then pulled out a weapon and went on the attack.
There was at least one report of shots fired in the direction of the victim but no connection made according to reports.
There is an active investigation underway.
