There is an active investigation underway in Union after an early morning shooting left one person dead outside of a bar in the city.
Gunfire rang out in the 900 block of Rosemont Avenue near the Paddy's Place Bar at around 1:15 a.m. sending a heavy police presence to the scene where officers immediately located a male victim laying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest according to reports.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to sources at the scene, the shooter is possibly an off-duty law enforcement officer from a nearby city but this has yet to be confirmed by authorities. A physical altercation reportedly broke out between the two men just outside the bar shortly before the shooting the source said.
The victim was said to be a regular at the bar and everyone knew and liked him very well. "He was the father of a young child" the source told RLS Metro Breaking News.
A large crime scene was setup and and active investigation is underway as police attempt to identify a motive for the shooting.
The identity of the victim has not "officially" been released at this time.
